Al-Ras is a town in the Qassim Province. Reporting the incident, local daily Al-Watan said the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) was called to be present at the time of the detention.
Quoting police spokesman Col. Fahd Al-Habdan, the daily said the woman was stopped for driving a car, which had two other women, on their way to a mall.
He said when a member of the Haia arrived on the scene, he called the traffic police who took the necessary steps to process the women for driving.
The Haia spokesman, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mansour, said the commission received a call from the security police to accompany the woman from where she was stopped to the traffic police station.
The newspaper said the car was detained and the family of the woman was summoned to accompany her to the traffic police station for questioning. The woman was later released, according to other Arabic dailies, after signing an undertaking that she would not drive again.
The incident came a day after Manal Al-Sharif, the Saudi woman who drove her car in Dhahran, Eastern Province Thursday, was detained.
Al-Sharif was first arrested on Saturday after uploading a video on YouTube in which she talked about the challenge of having to rely on drivers.
