“I don't believe that Headley is one who can be so easily influenced by jihadi elements. The suspect's investigators have spent merely 30 hours interrogating Headley, while I have been talking to him for more than 1,000 hours. I can say with confidence that Headley has been made a scapegoat by the Americans — the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Headley is not what he is made out to be and has a mind of his own. There is a much deeper issue,” Bhatt claimed.
In another important related development, the Shiv Sena refuted the claim Headley made Tuesday in the Chicago court, that he was in contact with the Shiv Sena through the party’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Rajaram Rege and that he had plans to penetrate the Sena through him.
Dismissing Headley’s claim, Sena Member of Parliament and executive editor of party mouthpiece Saamna, Sanjay Raut, told the media on Wednesday that the Sena does not have the post of PRO. The party also does not have any spokesman by name of Rege nor do any of the Sena leaders know him, Raut clarified.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Rege, when confronted with the claims made by Headley, denied that he was a PRO of the Sena, or even a ordinary member or that knew any of the Sena leaders.
“I am a computer engineer by profession for the past 15 years and involved in social work. Therefore I used to visit the Sena headquarters in suburb Dadar to help solve people's problems,” he added.
