The existing 11 RCCI branches have failed to cope with the pressure because of increasing number of commercial registrations that has grown five-fold during the last five years.
RCCI’s members are either from Riyadh city or from other governorates of Riyadh region that extends over an area of 380,000 sq km, Saad Abdullah Al-Ajlan, chief of the RCCI’s trade committee, said after inaugurating an international mango festival at Lulu Hypermarket.
Referring to the RCCI’s operation in Riyadh region with special reference to the trade and retail sector, he said the retail sector in the Kingdom was growing consistently.
“The consumer behavior has also shown a changing pattern with more and more Saudis and expatriates opting to go to supermarkets than to wholesalers or small wayside shops,” he said, adding that with the rapid economic development, consumers now increasingly prefer to shop at high-end supermarkets.
