Dina Baashen has opened a shop in the city to supply attractive dresses needed by larger women, as she found that there was a gap in the market.
“No woman wishes to be overweight, especially when they see magazines with full of slim beauties. However, this should not prevent women of any size from being beautiful in their appearance and this is my area of business. I produce suitable dresses for them,” she said.
She said such shops selling dresses for larger women can be found all over the world. “This is why I decided to cater to the requirements of these women, including dresses and other accessories,” she said.
Baashen is upbeat about Saudi women and their capabilities. “They have brought innovative ideas into whatever fields they have touched. We can see today Saudi women fashion designers have reached top levels. Saudi women have proved that they can perform well in many fields,” she explained.
The only thing lacking for Saudi women, according to Baashen, is experience, which she said they could gain through practice.
How does she balance her business and family affairs? “My house, husband and children still remain my primary concern. I turned to business after my children grew up and could depend on themselves. I have also learned to manage my time without affecting my family responsibilities,” she said.
Speaking about the problems faced by Saudi businesswomen, she said all people face difficulties when they do any work.
“I also faced some difficulties when I started my business, which I initially ran from home. Customers would not follow my timings as they thought they could come at any time. But after opening the shop most of my problems disappeared.”
Baashen tries her best to satisfy her customers by offering quality products at reasonable rates.
“My intention is not only to make money but also help larger women appear beautiful. I wish that every large woman could look elegant. I am not encouraging them to put on weight. God has created us in different forms and sizes. There are fat and slim people and there are short ones. It is the right of every man and woman to appear in their most beautiful form.”
