She decided to risk police arrest not because she was emulating activists like Manal Al-Sharif, but because she believed a prison cell was better than her husband’s house. Al-Riyadh daily reported on Friday that the woman quarreled with her husband and fled to her stepfather’s house at night.
But the stepfather threw her back out after he learned that she had to come to stay with him for good. He did not listen to the pleas of the young woman’s mother to let her stay until the morning and also ordered his sons not to help their half-sister.
However, one of the brothers secretly gave her his car keys and told her to drive to her uncle’s house 150 km away and provided her with men’s clothes. Although she was scared, police at a checkpoint on the way did not stop her and she reached her uncle’s house safely.
