The GCC Games will take place from Oct. 11-22 and feature
about 1,500 athletes from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab
Emirates and Qatar competing in 11 sports — including basketball, athletics and
cycling — at 10 venues across the kingdom.
The event was originally set to take place in April before
being delayed by the protests that forced the Bahrain Grand Prix to also be
rescheduled for October.
Authorities
say the situation has improved, but rights groups disagree.
