The event was also attended by chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities Prince Sultan bin Salman, who described the museum as a civilization door to the region and a tourist directory to anyone who wanted to know the history of the region.
The two also laid the foundation stone for the building of the society for disabled children, which will occupy an area of 3,600 square meters and consist of buildings for education and administration.
Prince Fahd said the building manifested the generous support of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the humanitarian work and welfare societies. "We are honored to serve this category of people, who are very dear to our hearts. We look forward to them becoming effective members of Saudi society, which is keen to involve the disabled in all its activities," he said.
On his part, Prince Sultan said the museum would have an area of 4,328 sq. meters and would be completed in 30 months. "The museum will reflect the historic dimensions of the area, which witnessed old civilizations," he said.
During his visit to the region, Prince Sultan also signed a cooperation agreement with Al-Jouf University.
