“The pardon has been granted by Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minster Prince Naif,” Executive Director of the Committee to Assist Prisoners and Their Families Suhail Sawan said in a statement to Arab News on Tuesday.
“The prisoners will be released and sent back to their home countries before August so that they can join their families in Ramadan. However those who are serving time for major crimes or violation of private rights will not be freed,” Sawan said.
Chairperson of the women’s section of the Committee for Prisoners and Released Prisoners in Jazan, Aishah Al-Zakari, said 40 women from Yemen, Indonesia and Ethiopia will be released under the special pardon.
