Nash scored only 1 and 9 at Sabina Park, where West Indies
lost by 63 runs in four days.
His six innings this year add up to only 54 runs.
“It is clear that Brendan has been struggling for form for
some time and we want to give him a chance to take some time away from
international cricket and work on his game,” said Clyde Butts, the chairman of
selectors.
“Brendan is a mentally tough cricketer and we are sure that
he will be able to overcome the challenges he is now facing and come back
strong.” Edwards has yet to play a test, though he made his one-day debut in
the World Cup this year. His inclusion was the only change to the squad.
Marlon Samuels, who missed the first test, was expected to
replace Nash in the lineup for the second test starting on Tuesday at
Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Darren Sammy (captain), Adrian Barath, Carlton
Baugh, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards,
Kirk Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan,
Lendl Simmons.
