In response to a question about France’s air-dropping of weapons to civilians fighting Muammar Qaddafi’s forces, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters Thursday that countries should avoid actions that go beyond UN Security Council directives.
Hong says China wants a peaceful resolution to restore peace and stability in Libya as soon as possible.
China is critical of the NATO-led campaign to protect civilians rebelling against Qaddafi, saying Western countries are exceeding the UN authorization and actively taking sides in the conflict.
