Lt. Col. Ziyad Al-Raqaity, spokesman for Eastern Province police, said the raid was part of an intensive campaign to put an end to beggary in cooperation with the Commission to Promote Virtue and Prevent Vice and the Dammam Passport Department.
Police monitored the gang for three days and managed to identify their meeting spot in a residential apartment in Dammam. Police stormed the apartment and arrested the men. Most of the men are in their 60s and 70s with the exception of one young man. Police found more than SR3,200 on them in addition to cell phones.
