Zakaria Al-Kamali, an eyewitness, said that three more civilians were critically injured when their homes were hit by a shell early on Sunday in Al-Rawda district. Al-Kamali said that the rockets, shelling and bombardment resume every night and cause panic in the city, forcing many families to leave their homes.
"Most of the civilians fall victims to shells missing their mark. The city has come under fire from the pro-regime forces stationed outside the city and tribesmen who say that they are protecting the protesters."
Following the death of the civilians, thousands of protesters left their camping area in the city and took to the streets of the city to denounce the attack and demand the end of Saleh's regime.
Separately, security forces in the troubled southern province of Abyan said they had killed four Al-Qaeda militants in the ongoing clashes in Zinjebar, the Ministry of Defense website reported on Sunday.
One soldier was killed and four injured in the clashes. The website stated Al-Qaeda militants are taking shelter in mosques and using them as ammunition depots.
