Orpik, 30, had similar surgery on his left side in 2010 and is expected to take six to eight weeks to recover, the Penguins said in a statement.
The former first-round draft pick had one goal and 12 assists in 63 games with the Penguins last season.
Pittsburgh open their regular season on Oct. 6 against the Vancouver Canucks.
