The person says administration officials were prepared to send the agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama to the Capitol this week. But they say congressional leaders from both parties asked the administration to hold off until September given the all-consuming negotiations taking place on the national debt and deficit.
The White House said Wednesday that it was still in active discussions with Congress over how to continue with the trade pacts.
The person with knowledge of the situation spoke on condition of anonymity because the delay has not been announced formally.
