Mohammed Wali Zazi, the father of Afghan-born Najibullah Zazi was arrested in 2009 after his son and two other would-be suicide bombers trained by Al-Qaeda were accused of plotting to attack the subways. The son, who has pleaded guilty, called off the attack when he learned the FBI was alerted.
Two Zazi family members testified as part of plea deals. They told jurors the father persuaded the family to destroy bomb-making chemicals stashed by Zazi in Colorado and to lie to the grand jury about it.
The elder Zazi denied ever knowing about his son’s crimes.
Deliberations are to resume Friday.
