Yasser Al-Muolimi was seriously injured when unknown attackers opened fire on him.  He is currently recuperating in a local hospital following a surgical procedure on his legs.
The Yemeni Journalist Syndicate issued a statement condemning the attack and urging security services in the country to quickly investigate the incident and bring the culprits  to justice. The syndicate said that the assassination attempt is a dangerous escalation against journalists and a crime targeting activists.
In the south, tribal forces working with the Yemeni Army halted on Friday a convoy of militants heading to the southern town of Zinjibar where government troops are fighting to dislodge militants, a tribal source said.
One militant was killed and around 10 arrested, the source said, when the tribesmen intercepted the convoy at Moudiya in Abyan province on Yemen’s southern coast.
The source said tribes had secured the road from Shabwa province to Shaqra in Abyan, a main highway leading to Zinjibar. A local official in Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan, said clashes continued there between the army and militants. The army had retaken control of a sports stadium outside the city, he said.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of President Abdullah Saleh's supporters paraded through Al-Sabean Square in the capital to renew their adherence to the constitutional legitimacy as Saleh's opponents assembled in most of the troubled state's squares to denounce what they described as "the regime's mass punishment against the people."
Similar protests were also organized in the cities of Saada, Ibb and Dhalae.
Khaled Al-Ansi, a protest leader and one of the founders of the 17-member presidential council, said on Friday that most of the figures that were chosen to be members of the council have positively reacted to the move, promising to back it.
In Taiz city, a girl was killed by a shell on Friday afternoon, a local journalist told Arab News.
Najwa Mogbel, 12, was killed and three of her family members were injured when their house was hit by a tank shell apparently targeting  local armed tribesmen who support pro-democracy protesters.
