Israel’s Channel 10 TV estimated about 10,000 demonstrators gathered in downtown Tel Aviv on Saturday. Protesters complain about the soaring cost of living and say they cannot afford to buy or rent apartments.
They have set up tent camps in a handful of cities throughout the country over the past week and a half, calling on the government to provide affordable housing solutions.
Prices for homes, food and fuel have risen in recent months. Strikes by social workers and doctors illustrate how many layers of society are frustrated with the cost of living.
