The Spanish rider could lose his victories in the Giro and 2010 Tour when the Court of Arbitration for Sport rules on his positive test for clenbuterol one year ago. A three-day CAS hearing opens next Monday.
Philippe Gilbert of Belgium is third in the rankings. He led for much of the season following his domination of the one-day spring classics.
