Violence erupted there last week when Serbs attacked NATO
forces in response to a bid by Kosovo to impose a ban on goods from Serbia
using the crossings.
The Western official, who was close to the talks, said
Friday that Kosovo and Serbia “reached a common understanding” with NATO to
maintain positions it has now taken up at the sites. The official spoke on
condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
Under the agreement, no commercial goods will move through
the border crossings until Kosovo and Serbia resume talks next month.
Kosovo or Serbia officials did not immediately comment on
the deal.
