General Intelligence Chief Prince Muqrin received the premier at the Royal Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
Others who were present included senior government officials, new Pakistan Ambassador to the Kingdom Naeem Khan and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh Ayaz Khan.
Gilani was accompanied by Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and Choudhury Parvez Elahi, minister of industries and production.
A senior diplomat from the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh told Arab News that the visit was primarily an Umrah visit during the holy month of Ramadan.
"The premier would take stock of the regional situation during his meeting with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, which will be held following Isha prayers on Monday," he added. According to the official, the premier's trip is a follow up to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari's visit in July this year.
Gilani performed Umrah with members of his accompanying delegation following his arrival on Sunday. He will also visit the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah soon after his meeting with the king.
Prior to his departure from Islamabad on Sunday morning, Gilani told the media that he would discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties with King Abdullah.
Among the issues that Gilani is expected to discuss with the Saudi leadership include an oil facility for Pakistan, enhancing bilateral trade and matters concerning Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia.
"Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy bilateral relations in diverse fields and the Pakistani people hold the Saudi nation in high esteem," the premier said.
