The worker, identified as 56-year-old Girish, was working as a technician at the Dammam-based Badr and Husseini Company when he died of a heart attack on June 19.
“Girish’s bereaved family including wife and children are anxiously waiting for the arrival of his body to see him before the burial,” said K.T.A. Muneer, a member of the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC).
“Soon after his death, Girish’s relatives and social workers have been trying to send his body to Kerala and they had presented the necessary documents to the Indian Consulate in Jeddah.”
The OICC leaders had been contacting the company to renew Girish’s resident permit (iqama), which had expired nine months ago.
“Finally we got the iqama renewed and submitted it to the consulate on July 9 to complete the formalities,” he said adding that the company has not yet calculated Girish’s end of service benefits.
“The company has to pay more than SR7,000 to pay for embalming and air transport charges. We have learned that the company has transferred the amount to a Jeddah bank. Once we receive the amount, we can complete the remaining procedures to repatriate the body,” he explained.
