The Council on American-Islamic Relations sent letters Monday to the State Department and FBI seeking clearance for two US citizens to travel freely. CAIR says the men have been improperly placed on either the no-fly list or travel watchlist and are being denied fundamental travel rights as American citizens.
Government officials did not comment on the specific cases but have argued in similar court cases that barring a person from flying does not infringe on their constitutional rights.
Gadeir Abbas, a CAIR lawyer, says he gets calls at least once a month from Muslim men who find themselves unable to travel because of government scrutiny.
