That’s why they are always chasing a scoop. But in the Saudi city of Arar, journalist and writer Saleh Al-Shehi went one better than his associates. In a rare, frank moment, he admitted that members of the media are only after furthering their own interests rather than edifying the readers about the true affairs in their country.
According to a local daily, Al-Shehi raised many eyebrows from journalists participating in a forum organized by journalists at the Literary Club in Arar by berating his colleagues for just buttering up officials and not bettering themselves.
“Some journalists seek only to serve their own interests when they deliver gratifying reports about the municipality, traffic police, education department or hospital directorate,” Al-Shehi said. As some would say, a case of a pot calling the kettle black!
