Since the eve of Eid the residents claim that the ATMs cough up empty when they try to withdraw cash. They said that the banks should have made sure that these machines are supplied with enough cash so as to enable the account holders to withdraw money and meet their obligations.
Reporting this on Friday, Al-Madinah newspaper quoted Abdullah Al-Shihri, a Saudi citizen, as saying that since the eve of the Eid he was desperately looking for cash in ATMs, but to no avail. Finally he was obliged to borrow from his relatives.
He was surprised by the disparity between towns and villages with regard to banking services and said villages usually bustle with people, who come to spend Eid with their families, thus making it imperative that the banks meet their obligation of keeping the ATMs replenished.
Khaled Al-Amri, another citizen, said he had to drive for about 200 km to Al-Baha to get money from the ATMs there.
For the ones in his village were empty. The newspaper quoted an unidentified banker as blaming the companies that transport and feed ATMs with cash for the problem.
