Lt. Col. Ziyad Al-Riqaiti attributed the decrease to efforts exerted by the police and the spread of a security culture among residents.
The spokesman said aggressions against people topped the crimes in the province with 21 percent. He said these included physical abuse, bad mouthing and fatal assaults. "Many such aggressors say they could not control their rage," he added.
Al-Riqaiti said with 10 percent, financial crimes occupied the second place. "These crimes included stealing of cars and robbing houses and shops, in addition to fraud and embezzlement," he explained. He added that such crimes targeted money, whether in cash or kind.
The spokesman said about 53 percent of homicides were committed by young men between 19 and 30 years of age. “Most of the crimes committed by these young criminals rotated around theft of money, attacking fellow humans and alcohol abuse,” he said.
The spokesman said about 38 percent of the criminal cases were registered against foreigners.
