The $21.3 million expansion project consists of two parts: a $9.3 million anodizing unit and a $12 million aluminum extrusion line.
Both are expected to begin operations in December.
The advanced anodizing unit is expected to produce about 6,000 metric tons of anodized aluminum annually, a 67 percent increase over the current production levels.
The new extrusion line will increase the production capacity of extruded aluminum by about 33 percent, from 24,000 to 32,000 metric tons annually.
Balexco Chief Executive Officer Jassim Mohamed Seyadi said the expansion was aimed at meeting the growing levels of local and foreign demand. He pointed out that Balexco products are used on a large scale in many foreign projects.
Seventy percent of the company’s products is exported to Gulf and Arab markets and the remaining 30 percent consumed by the Bahraini market, he added.
Balexco has achieved steady positive revenues of between 20 percent and 25 percent over the past five years, and that the company is the fourth largest aluminum extrusion company in MENA in terms of production today.
“Balexco has managed to maintain its standing in the Gulf markets thanks to its outstanding products, its experience of more than 30 years, and its ability to develop its operations and products to meet the needs of the market and its clients across all of the countries in which it operates,” said Balexco Chairman Mohammed Hassan Al-Nusuf.
Al-Nusuf said the Belexco’s board of directors is negotiating a number of new expansion projects in light of available investment opportunities related to the company’s activities.
He said the company intends to significantly expand its operations in the near future in order to continue meeting the needs of its clients and the construction and industrial boom that Bahrain and the GCC are currently witnessing.
Since its launch in 1977, Bahrain Aluminum Extrusion Company has sought out to be at the forefront of companies in the industry of extruded aluminum.
The company’s annual production of rolled sections is currently 24,000 tons.
