The official with the environmental department of the Balearic Islands regional government says the fire in the Santa Eulalia area on the east of the island broke out Sunday evening.
He adds that it’s still burning Monday and not yet under control, although it is now advancing more slowly.
No one has been hurt. Some 150 firefighters and nine water-dumping planes or helicopters are battling the blaze.
The official said the cause of the fire is not immediately known. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department rules.
