During the tour, the governor inspected the lounges for domestic and international passengers and self-service machines at the airport, one of the new generation airports in the Kingdom designed to operate international flights.
Prince Mishaal held a meeting with top officials at the airport and urged them to provide integrated services to passengers.
"Our government has not delayed any projects that would benefit citizens. The Najran regional airport is a good example," Prince Mishaal said.
He said the state-of-the-art facilities would help the airport provide quality services to passengers. The airport was constructed at a cost of SR400 million.
The project included construction of a new terminal with lounges for domestic and international passengers, a 3,100-meter runway, aircraft parking areas and car parking for 650 vehicles.
Last week Faisal Al-Sugair, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, met with GACA officials and discussed the measures taken for shifting operations to the new terminal.
"The airport is designed to receive wide-bodied aircraft and will operate flights to neighboring countries. It has a capacity of 1.4 million passengers and 15,000 flights annually," Al-Sugair said.
"We have implemented this project as part of GACA's efforts to modernize the Kingdom's aviation infrastructure facilities," the president said.
The new terminal covers an area of 13,000 sq. m.. Three air bridges have been provided for the boarding of passengers. The project included renovation of the air cargo building and the lounge for VIP passengers. A new building has been constructed for support services.
