The only goal of the match came in the 83rd minute from a penalty kick by Hamad Al-Hamad, who deposited the ball to the right of the goalkeeper.
Ittifaq moves to the top of the table with full nine points from three games.
Ittihad team captain Muhammad Nur put the blame on the referee for the defeat saying the match official made a mistake in awarding penalty kick to Ittifaq.
After the match, Nur wondered why Ittihad always lost against Ittifaq with either a penalty kick or with one Ittihad player red carded. Nur said that it is stil early days in the league and Ittihad will compete for the title despite its first loss. He said five Ittihad players played despite their injuries .
This loss placed Ittihad, last year’s runner-up, next to Al-Hilal, the defending champion, which lost the second round match 2-0 against Shabab last Thursday.
