The ministry conducted a number of training courses for health supervisors with the participation of international experts in food safety. The courses covered theoretical as well as practical aspects.
The trainees were taken for a tour of food production centers in the Kingdom to find out the kinds of safety measures they follow during the various phases of production.
The first such course was attended by 90 health officials, mostly young men who have recently joined the ministry. They visited the Zeema slaughterhouse of Fakeeh Farms in Makkah.
The Makkah municipality receives the newly trained officials at the start of the Haj season, when more than 2
million worshippers gather in the holy city for Haj. Throughout the year, Saudi Arabia receives more than 10 million pilgrims who come for Haj and Umrah.
The ministry’s practical training for the health supervisors is given at Fakeeh Farms, one of the largest poultry farms in the world that applies international hygienic standards.
Abdul Rahman Fakeeh, chairman of the group, said the training program came as part of the cooperation between the public and private sectors. “It also shows that many food production centers in the Kingdom apply international safety standards,” he added.
