The actor told reporters that the
movie, "Siberian Education," shows an aspect of criminal life that
many viewers are unaware of and that is slowly becoming extinct. The action is
set in Trans-Dniester, a pro-Russia separatist republic between Moldova and
Ukraine, though filming of the US-Italian production took place in Lithuania.
Malkovich plays Kuzya, an old mobster who mentors his grandson on how to be an
honorable crook in a community of Russian recidivists. Filming in Lithuania
wrapped up this week.
