The directory was established in cooperation with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center.
SADA Board Director Prince Saud bin Khaled bin Abdul Rahman expressed his gratitude for the support the chairman was extending to the association’s mission and activities, which has helped in achieving its goals.
Deputy to the board director Princess Madawi bint Mohammad said such support has contributed toward helping the association take solid steps to best serve Alzheimer’s patients.
Princess Madawi also pointed out that the national directory will help concerned bodies establish health and rehabilitation plans and strategies to best serve elderly patients in general and Alzheimer’s patients in particular.
The SADA had established its national directory based on the database standards used by the National Coordination Center for Alzheimer’s in the US.
According to a source at the SADA, the information that will be collected in a systemic way from participating hospitals that evaluate and treat patients and will be used to construct a comprehensive image of the disease’s trends in the Kingdom.
This will be available for decision makers to improve the services provided to those patients.
The association is currently working on supporting research related to the means of diagnosing and evaluating Alzheimer’s disease.
According to the latest reports by the International Association for Alzheimer’s, there are 40 million patients in the world and their annual health care cost is estimated at $600 billion.
The same report stressed the importance of early diagnosis and the necessity to build awareness of the rights patients and their families have.
