La Paz Hospital said Tuesday the infant boy died Monday afternoon. It would not disclose the cause of death, citing the family’s wishes.
Rocio Pineiro, who was due to give birth in a few days, was shot in the head Thursday in a Madrid church by a gunman as she sat in a pew with her mother. The assailant then shot and wounded another woman sitting close by, before walking up to the altar and killing himself.
Police say they have no evidence the shooter knew the victims.
After the baby was delivered by paramedics, doctors cautioned he might have suffered brain damage due to oxygen deprivation.
