According to police sources, the alert was communicated by the IB to the Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh state police chiefs based on communications between the terrorists groups intercepted by federal intelligence agencies. The terrorists of JeM and LeT, the IB stated had already prepared the hit list of the VIPs and the police were also alerted to beef up security not only for the targeted VVIPs but also for the senior Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishan Advani who is presently touring the country to create awakening against corruption.
Though the police or intelligence agencies do not reveal the names of those on the hit list of the terrorists, police sources told Arab News that those on terrorists hit list from Mumbai include Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, two leading industrialists from Mumbai and three from Pune.
A Bollywood producer-director speaking on condition of anonymity told Arab News that the threat perception to the stars and some producers from terrorists had been looming for a long time and is nothing new. In view of the danger to their lives, several Bollywood stars and producers have deployed security guards for their protection, but still, they have to depend more on the police than on their personal bodyguards as the police protection teams have the latest modern weapons to counter the terrorists.
