Twenty-one member events and 7 open qualifying events are being held in golf clubs across the GCC countries with the winners to qualify for the Golden Ticket Grand Final to be held in Jan. 30 next year at the Yas Links Golf Club in Abu Dhabi.
During the Grand Final qualifiers will have the chance to play in Emirates Airline Invitational Pro-Am, hosted by Abdullah Al Naboodah and considered one of the finest tournaments in the world, alongside some of Europe’s finest golfers.
The European Tour-sanctioned one-day Pro-Am was staged at Yas Links for the first time in January 2011 and proved to be an overwhelming success. Players and spectators alike heralded the tournament a fun yet seriously competitive event where the fans were able to get close to the action and join in the banter with the cream of The European Tour.
This is the first time a club from Saudi Arabia is hosting a qualifying tournament to pick four representatives at the prestigious event. The Dirab qualifying round is sponsored by Emirates Airliens and Zaas Construction Company with James Bowring as tournament director.
The entries have crossed the 100-player mark as of Tuesday, according to DGCC Golf Manager Bouchaib El Jadiani.
