Abdullah bin Khaled, 72, was strangled to death with an electric wire. The Egyptian police found him in his apartment on Faisal Street in the Heram district. His son Waleed was in Cairo to receive the body after autopsy.
According to a police statement an Egyptian house painter, 27, who used to visit the victim regularly, is suspected to be the murderer.
The police hope to arrest him shortly and suspected an unemployed man had helped the painter in the crime. A large sum of money, two mobile phones and credit cards were found missing from the apartment.
The police broke the door to enter the apartment and found the body. A janitor had called them, saying the Saudi businessman had not come out of the room for quite some time and he suspected something was amiss. The room showed signs of resistance by the victim.
