The training program is held at City University.
The program will be held in two phases of two weeks each, an official statement said, adding that the second phase would start next month.
SRMG had signed a memorandum of understanding with City University to provide training on new media to journalists from Saudi Research & Publishing Company, a subsidiary of the group.
The first phase includes a number of lectures, dialogue sessions and workshops as well as field visits to leading media institutions specialized in the new media.
Dr. Azzam Al-Dakhil, CEO of SRMG, said the program was planned considering the dramatic development in digital media. He said the training program was essential to cope with developments in the media industry.
He described the Department of Journalism at City University as the most competent in the field as it follows an applicable methodology.
“This training program was jointly prepared by a working team from our company and the university,” Al-Dakhil said. “It also comes as part of the company’s plan to shift to the new media as a strategic and inevitable addition to the traditional media,” he said.
Professor George Brock, head of journalism at City University, said his department was honored to conduct the training program. “We are proud that our college is one of the best colleges of journalism in the world,” Brock said. He said the college has been instrumental in producing a large number of journalists who hold important positions in their fields of work.
The training program comes at a time when SRPC publications have started publishing its content on the iPad and iPhone platforms.
