The meeting, to be held in a brainstorming mode, is in preparation for the first formal session in Jakarta in the first quarter of 2012.
In four working sessions over two days, participants will discuss the nature and scope of the statute and the basic elements of the rules of procedure for the IPHRC. These should be finalized and adopted by the next session of Council of Foreign Ministers in Djibouti in mid 2012.
The sessions will also discuss the main elements of agenda of work and work program for the Jakarta session and the working methods the commission should adopt, in the light of the statute.
The 18-member commission was established in June 2011, at the 38th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Astana, Kazakhstan. The commission will take on an advisory role to member states on topics to do with human rights in a wide sense and issues on the OIC agenda.
