Hada sprawls over a green area of roughly 1,000 square kilometers, 25 km northwest of Makkah with a population of 45,000. It is a meeting point of many valleys and has sufficient supply of water to keep it cool and green most of the year.
Residents in the area hope that the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities and other related departments will take steps to make Hada an important tourist center.
Many residents are also willing to invest in tourist projects if they get support and encouragement from the government.
People complain that they have been noticing a steady fall in the number of tourists visiting the area. They believe the absence of tourist infrastructure is the reason visitors stay away.
The neighborhood also has the additional attractions of an agricultural research station and a climate research center run by King Abdulaziz University. The research activities include methods of adaptation of cattle and plants from different parts of the world to the Saudi climatic and geographic conditions in addition to cattle breeding. There are 300 cow heads including rare breeds from various parts of the world. In the goats’ section, Saudi varieties such as Harri, Najdi, Naeemi and Sawakini strains are found besides goats from other parts of the world.
