The Philippines said Sunday it had expressed concerns to China after the boats were spotted in disputed waters in the South China Sea last month.
A Philippine military commander said they apparently came from a Chinese-occupied reef in the disputed Spratly Islands then cruised into Philippine waters.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin told reporters Monday that China has indisputable sovereignty over the area.
He says China won’t accept the “groundless accusations” from the Philippines and hopes the Philippines “won’t create something from nothing.”
Six Asian nations claim the potentially oil-rich islands and their surrounding waters.
