RIYADH: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has allocated SR2 billion for its development work in Jazan, which will provide health care facilities and hospitals with a total of 3,495 beds within the governorate.
The announcement was made by Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah during the visit of Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammad bin Nasser to MOH headquarters on Thursday in Riyadh. Explaining the strategic plan of his ministry, Al-Rabeeah gave a presentation on the completed and upcoming projects in Jazan to the visiting governor. Senior health officials and deputy ministers of health of various departments were present to receive the governor at the function.
Al-Rabeeah told the governor that his ministry has plans to build a Forensic Medicine Center at a cost of SR47 million and a city morgue in Jazan.
Outlining the proposed health projects, Ageel Al-Ghamdhi, deputy minister of health for therapeutic medicine, said that the 200-bed Prince Muhammad bin Nasser Hospital in Jazan is currently being equipped and furnished and will be opened shortly.
The MOH will also build a 500-bed specialized hospital, a 300-bed facility in the south of Jazan and a 300-bed maternity hospital.
Al-Ghamdi said 60 percent of the work on the 100-bed general hospital in the Medical Tower in Jazan has been completed and that the ministry also plans to build general hospitals and clinics in places such as Bish, Fayfa, Darb, Quba, Al-Ardha, and Adailan.
Al-Ghamdhi added that around 600 people will be provided with employment opportunities in the hospitals that will be opened shortly. He said the health plans for Jazan was made with the help of renowned consultants from countries such as the United States, Sweden, Egypt and Pakistan.
Last week, the MOH unveiled a budget of SR7.2 billion for the fiscal year 2012, which includes plans to construct 12 new hospitals, including the proposed Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Hospital to be built in Riyadh. The ministry will oversee the implementation of 67 newly-approved projects in nearly 20 health regions spread throughout the Kingdom.
