The idea behind the construction of the clay house came from Abdullah Al-Khozam, a Saudi resident of Hail, who made the proposal to the officials in charge of tourism and the organizers of the festival. He made the architectural designs of the house and said all concerned people welcomed the idea and were happy to support it.
The construction of the house was included in the activities of the festival and immediately became a point of attraction for visitors who were asked to participate in the construction works.
A group of old and young men joined hands in building the house in the form of a small hotel consisting of a reception, sitting room, courtyard and a number of rooms.
Al-Khozam expects the construction of the house to continue during the coming festivals and said it would be completed in five years. "During all these years, visitors of the annual desert festival will contribute to the construction work. This is a chance for them to know how people used to build their homes in the past," he said.
Al-Khozam said many visitors called for the construction of similar houses in their rest homes so as to enjoy a breeze from the past.
