The 10-day program, which began on Feb. 15, is popularly known as Multaqa Shabab Alkhobar or Alkhobar Youth Forum. It will end on Feb. 24. The forum is held every year, and this is the sixth year it is being organized.
The events are being held under the supervision of Saleh Abdul Rahman Al-Yousuf, director of the Islamic center and a judge at the Court of Appeal in Dammam. The general theme of the program is: “How to get a better life.”
“The program is being sponsored and supported by many private sector organizations as part of their corporate social responsibility,” said Ahmed A. Al-Shehri, director of the call and guidance office in Alkhobar. “Such programs are of immense help to the community and especially young people.”
The forum is divided into 15 parts. “We have seminars, training courses, Islamic lectures, sporting events, stage programs, heritage shows, programs for children and quiz competitions,” said Al-Shehri.
Perhaps the most important highlights of the event are the lectures by prominent and popular religious scholars in the Kingdom such as Sheikh Muhammad Al-Arifi, Sheikh Salman Al-Oudah, Sheikh Aaidh Al-Qarni, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Zaiyat, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Talha and Sheikh Nabil Al-Ouwadi.
More than 30 foreigners converted to Islam are attending the forum. “This is the result of the efforts of our religious scholars,” said Turki Al-Handum of the Center for Islamic Culture.
“So far, more than 85,000 Saudis and expatriates have attended the event,” said Al-Handum. This correspondent also saw a number of people from Qatar, Kuwait and other neighboring countries.
The organizers are expecting a large number of people to attend the events lined up for the last three days. “We are eager to welcome them all,” said Al-Handum.
The heritage exhibition is attracting the interest of many Saudis and expatriates. They are seen taking pictures of the various collections exhibiting the traditional life of Saudi Arabia.
