The council constituted a number of sub-committees to study problems facing the employment of women in the local market, promoting the idea of women working from home and specifying the most important sectors in which women might undertake positive roles.
The council held its first meeting in Riyadh last Saturday. Labor Minister Adel Fakeih attended the meeting, along with more than 60 other members. Representatives of women committees in the various chambers of commerce and industry were also present.
The council decided to hold four meetings annually and to forward its recommendations to the minister.
According to sources close to the meeting, the council discussed the experiment of the sector of communications in employing women along with the experiments of two other private companies.
They said the meeting considered the difficulties that might face women in their work places including sexual harassment.
The meeting concluded that the most important sectors to provide job opportunities for women include education, health and commerce.
The Justice Ministry announced that it had about 300 vacancies for Saudi women. Nasser Saleh Al-Oud, adviser to the justice minister for social projects, said women could work as legal advisers in courts, specialists in social education and administrators.g more Saudi citizens instead of foreigners.
