“The week’s programs will be held at King Khaled Cultural Center in Buraidah,” said an organizer, adding the event was aimed at enhancing public awareness on the importance of science and technology.
“The program aims at establishing a culture of science and technology in society, especially youths who account for 60 percent of Saudi population,” said Muhammad Al-Suwaiyel, president of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).
KACST will organize a seven-day exhibition at the center. University and school students will be allowed to visit the show from 9 a.m. to 12 noon while others will be allowed to visit from 4 to 9 p.m.
Al-Suwaiyel has commended the government’s efforts to provide strategic orientations to promote science, technology and innovation in the Kingdom to move toward a knowledge-based economy.
“There is substantial annual expenditure on scientific research in the Kingdom,” the president said, adding that it shows the attention and care given by the government to the sector. The government has allocated SR8 billion to implement the National Policy for Science and Technology.
