Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who is also the chairman of the board of trustees of Alfaisal University, launched the newly designed website at a ceremony organized on the university campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Prince Khaled said: "The human capital is more important than anything else…the best effort is to help human development and help build vital educational projects.”
Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Khalid, the university's chief executive, was present during the website launching ceremony besides a large number of guests including university officials and faculty members.
"As the virtual window to the university, the website (www.alfaisal.edu) reflects Alfaisal’s true character and is simple to navigate,” said Faisal Al-Mubarak, provost of Alfaisal University. “With this website redesign and launch, we intend to improve both the front-end experience and back-end functionality of the site, making it easier and more enjoyable to learn all about the university."
He said Alfaisal’s new site has been designed to match the university’s position among academic institutions in Saudi Arabia and worldwide. "The visit of Prince Khaled to the university and the launch of the website show how important Alfaisal University is to him," said Al-Mubarak, adding Alfaisal is a student-centered community entirely committed to ensuring students have opportunities to succeed in their academic and civic endeavors.
Speaking on this occasion, Ahmed Al-Obaid, Alfaisal University's vice president for administrative and financial affairs, welcomed Prince Khaled.
"The patronage of the prince is an honor for the employees of the university. Prince Khaled's keen desire to support the university and his intimate involvement in the affairs of this institution indicate his love for education and for young Saudi students,” said Dr. Al-Obaid.
He said the website will have full information about the institution, its programs, future plans and achievements. He added this comprehensive website is an important service to help everyone to obtain information and connect with teachers, students, parents and anyone wishing to register at the university. "We are seeking through the website to provide a quick overview of the university within a few seconds," he added.
Arab Orphans Day
Meanwhile, Prince Khaled will attend the Arab Orphans Day to be organized in Jeddah by the Ministry of Social Affairs on Tuesday, writes Galal Fakkar.
Abdullah Al-Tawi, director of social affairs in Makkah province, said the day would be organized with the support of various charitable organizations.
The occasion is significant as according to a study, about 20 percent of children in the Kingdom are placed in care homes for social reasons, not because of the death of their parents. The study said they include those children who live away from their parents because of family conflicts.
Al-Tawi said more than 400 officials from charitable organizations and government departments would attend the event.
"The program reflects the government's support for social welfare activities," said Al-Tawi.
He said a number of charitable organizations have planned a variety of programs to mark the day, including educational, cultural, social and sports initiatives.
Orphans in Jeddah, Makkah, Taif and other parts of the province will take part in these programs.
"We have in the Kingdom a lot of initiatives for the welfare and well-being of orphans. The ministry takes care of orphans through its shelter homes or through charitable organizations," he said.
Speaking about the day, Al-Tawi said it reflects the care given by the government and the Saudi society toward orphans, inspired by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
