Over three days, the conference will discuss 168 research works to be presented by specialists and researchers from 37 countries.
Chairman of the organizing committee Abdullah bin Muhammad Al-Bin Ali said 20 committees consisting of 250 male and female members had been working on the preparations for the conference.
He said the organizing committee received summaries of 288 research works presented by 644 researchers from 37 countries. After evaluation it accepted 168 works, of which 103 researches will be presented on PowerPoint and 65 in the form of posters and stickers.
Al-Bin Ali said the conference would hold 18 sessions, during which it will discuss a number of topics including the intelligent systems, computer networks, information technology, picture and language processing, electronic education and other relevant issues.
He said three specialized scientific sessions would be addressed by experts coming from outside the Kingdom and would be attended by the IT students, who will present their graduation projects.
Addressing the opening ceremony, university rector Mansour Al-Nozha thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for his continued support to the university and said an amount of SR5.7 billion had been allotted to the university during the past few years to implement a number of projects.
He said six projects would be completed this year, including buildings to house the colleges of education and science for boys and girls in addition to a number of classrooms for male and female students.
The rector said the higher education minister had recently signed a contract for the construction of a 400-bed educational hospital at the cost of SR500 million, and added that he had also signed a contract to implement the second phase of the housing complex for the staff at the amount of SR556 million.
Al-Nozha said the university had 30 colleges and more than 60,000 male and female students from Saudi Arabia and abroad.
