Immediately after his arrival to the hospital, the victim underwent a number of tests and a CT scan for the right shoulder as well as an MRI scan for the left shoulder. X-ray results showed the presence of a double fracture in the head of the shoulder joint on the right side.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Wani, orthopedic consultant, said the tests revealed a shattered large bone in the shoulder that led to his inability to move his right arm. This required surgical intervention to replace the joint with an artificial one. He noted the operation took two hours, during which his team removed the head of the arm bone, which is the circular part of the joint.
They also removed the bone shrapnel and tested the surface of the joint on the shoulder blade, replacing it with a new joint made of metal and plastic. They then reconnected the muscles and ligaments to the new joint, which is among the most modern in the world. Al-Wani said several days after the operation, the patient started physiotherapy sessions and felt much better. He began to move his arms without feeling any pain, making the surgery a success.
Al-Wani added that the shoulder is considered one of the most important body organs, and loss of natural movement could have a negative impact on daily activities.
