The 6th European Film Festival will run for 14 days until May 8, showcasing the vibrant cinema of the region.
The film festival will be held for the sixth time in a row under the supervision of the European delegation in Saudi Arabia where nine European countries, including Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, Belgium and Britain as well as Saudi Arabia will facilitate cultural exchange through cinema.
“Asian and European film festivals are a great opportunity for us to show our culture and lifestyle to the citizens and expatriates who are living in the Kingdom,” said Dr. Fahd Ghazoli, executive producer for Kuwther Media.
More than 280 Saudi films were made by Saudi filmmakers in 2011, including documentaries, short films and feature films. “We produced more than 300 Saudi films in a year and showed them in different international festivals in the Gulf and around the world and received lots of awards for our movies,” he added.
"Hidden Evil" and "Carom" had already been screened in Asian film festivals and received an excellent response.
"Hidden Evil" is the first Saudi horror film.
It focuses on a barn villa, which is located out of the city at a remote area. The horrifying secret of the barn is revealed at the end and wowed audiences.
"Carom," another short film directed by Hamza Tarzan and starring Mohammed Kurdi, is a family drama. It focuses on an old father waiting for his daughter to come and play carom with him, as they did when she was living with him. Carom also focuses on the hardships of life.
Other films that are going to be screened at the film festival include Italian drama "Centochiodi," Turkish drama "Eskiya" (The Bandit), Swiss comedy "Operation Casablanca," French feature "Largo Winch," Spanish thriller "Tesis," Oscar-winning British film "The King’s Speech," German comedy "Almanya,"  "Welcome to Germany," and Greek biography "El Greco."
