After all, the above two franchises have literally dominated its corner of the fast food market for decades.
Well, the revelation is that Wing Zone’s buffalo wings are extremely good and well cooked, and are offered with a ridiculously wide range of flavors.
They come in either original or boneless variety, although stick to the former as the latter looks suspiciously like the frozen breaded nuggets that you can buy in your local supermarket.
The 15 flavors are listed on the menu with a hotness rating to cater to a variety of tastes. They include the exotic sounding yet fiery Nuclear Habanero, Tokyo Dragon and Ragin’ Cajun flavors. Those with a milder palate will probably stick to the tangy Buffalo Bliss or cheesy Bleu Buffalo flavors.
Arab News tried the Thai Chili wings, which was in between mild and hot. The chicken itself was succulent, and the flavor hit the right blend of sweet and sour and spicy.
Less impressive were the sides. The wedge fries were soggy while the blue cheese sauce that was ordered with them was a bit too bitter.
Those who want something a little different can always try Wing Zone’s burgers, salads, or buffalo shrimps.
The service is quick, whether you order in or have your meal delivered to you (for a minimum charge of SR50). The interior of the restaurant is akin to your usual fast food joint, but it is kept spotlessly clean and is bright and functional. Wing Zone also has a family section upstairs, if you prefer to dine in with your relatives.
Wing Zone is not cheap. You will have to fork out SR18 for a portion of five wings, which is barely enough to satisfy those with hearty appetites. A more filling option could probably be found at the likes of Al-Baik for a few riyals less. However, larger orders are progressively cheaper if you intend to feed several mouths.
However, the quality of the food also has to be taken into account in any sort of assessment, and this is where Wing Zone shines. The chicken wings are cooked perfectly, offering the right resistance without being too tough. In addition, they are tasty, and that is not taking into account the variety of flavors on offer.
Stick to the chicken wings and tenders, ignore everything else on the menu, and you will enjoy a good meal.
The fried chicken market suddenly just got more interesting and tastier.
